Summer doings

I apologize for my lack of posting recently. Not that I've always been such a stellar blogger but I've been even more of a slacker and the reason is we've been busy enjoying the summer.

We spent a few days in Laughlin, Nevada which was nice. While there, we took a riverboat cruise so I got to cross that off my bucket list. Yahoo!

Apparently camping or RV-ing is a big thing there because each hotel had a section for RVs. This of course prompted us to quote Cousin Eddie from Christmas Vacation. "That there Clark, is an RV."

On our way out of Laughlin we stopped at a newer hotel/casino built by Indians. It was pretty and way out in the middle of nowhere, which can be cool if you're one to totally get away from it all, or if you're on the lam. Anyway, we passed some farmland and bales of hay prompting Bill to yell "Hay! (Hey)." Hilarious, I know, but it amused our kid. Okay, it amused me, too. I wanted to get out and take a picture of one of the bales but thought it would look weird or arouse suspicion from the guys nearby in the big farm machinery thing they were driving especially if the crops they were tending were non-legalized marijuana. Don't worry, guys, I'm from NJ; I didn't see nothin'.

I've still got some other pics to upload for future posts and I need to sort my thoughts out so I can write more coherently (yeah, right). In the meantime, hope you are enjoying your summer!

5 things I love about Summer

Summer's here and the living is easy. I do love this time of year and for many reasons. So I decided to write down the top 5 things I love about Summer:

5. The deliciousness of it all.
Fruits, ice cream, and cold glasses of iced tea. It's all yummy goodness especially in the heat. And it's good for you! Bet you never thought I'd talk about healthy eating here. (Maybe the heat's getting to me.)

4. Longer days.
I remember being a kid and getting to play from morning till late evenings. I still love that it gets dark much later. I may not run around chasing fireflies or playing tag at night like I used to but I do enjoy sitting out on the patio, just chillin'.

3. Water fun.
Swimming pools and water parks. There's nothing better than sitting in a pool with blue skies above and the mountains all around.

2. Easy does it.
People always seem to go at a slower and easier pace in the summertime. Maybe it's because of the heat but I like that there's no hurrying. (Unless I'm in the car and need to get somewhere and the car in front of me is going at a snail's pace. Then I become a road lunatic.)

1. Hot! Hot! Hot!
Anyone who knows me knows I'm not a fan of cold weather. That being said I do love living in Vegas where the weather is noticeably and preferably(to me) warmer. We do get our cold winter spells but they usually last only two months or so. Summer's here are hot and I looooove it!

Vegas summers usually last from late April to mid-October (which the natives call Groundhog Summer). I don't mind this at all.

First day of summer break!

Today was the Little Man's  first day of summer vacation. And he did...nothing. Well, nothing terribly exciting. He watched some videos, played video games and went to the park in the evening. I thought it would be nice to let him unwind and veg out. He's got 10 more weeks in which to do some fun stuff.

Bill's 'weekend' is Monday and Tuesday so we plan to take some day trips to Lake Mead and some other places. And of course there's pool-hopping at some of the hotel pools. Little Man is a water baby and loves swimming in pools.

In other related news: I can't believe he's going into the 4th grade. Even scarier is that he has two more years in Elementary School before he becomes a Middle Schooler. Say wha????
